What readers are saying:

Watch out Janet Evanovich, there's a new 'girl' on the block! Admittedly, she is older than Stephanie Plum but this is a ballsy lady with credibility and determination. ~ Carol Wyer, Author

This is a wonderful fast paced, jaunty read. The dialogue was witty and sassy. I enjoyed Mia Ferrari's independent, determined, take no crap from anyone, attitude. She has an inquisitive mind and is a passionate amateur sleuth. She is relentless in her quest for the truth; a thorn in the side of the police who are trying to solve the case.  ~ Gloria Antypowich, Romance Author

Thoroughly enjoyed 'Playing With the Bad Boys'. Really didn't want to put it down once I'd started. Believable main character and a good supporting cast. ~ Charles Jackson, Author

I fell in love with Mia. When is her next adventure? ~ Robert Helle, University of  Iowa

Darling, what can I say? I just love Mia; her style, her attitude and her Ferrari!
~ John Leith, Managing Director, 2Discover

I really enjoyed Mia's character, as well as her supporting cast. At times this book made me laugh. Other times I'd find myself nodding in understanding. The pace is
quick, the mystery a bit of a whodunit that allows readers to figure things out along with Mia.
~ Darcia Helle, Mystery/Suspense Author

A few words from the protagonist herself!

Hi, I’m
Mia Ferrari, and I’m writing to you through my creator, novelist, Sylvia Massara.

I have my very own website, and being a character in a book, it’s not every day that I get to interact with readers of my mystery/suspense adventures.

Just a little bit about me—I work in the hotel industry; and this is where my love of food comes from. Additionally, I come from an Italian background—and for Italians, food and love exist hand in hand, along with our love of Ferrari cars and Vespas.

You might ask what I’m doing in a mystery/suspense series—well, I simply loooooooooooove a good murder; and with the first novel, “Playing with the Bad Boys”, released in March 2012—the real answer is that I used to want to be a cop, but I never made it into the academy because of my archenemy, Detective Sergeant Phil Smythe. He’s a real pain in the ass and a bastard, just like my ex-husband. Men! But I do have a soft spot for a younger man I had a bit of a fling with a lifetime ago in Venice--and he happens to be my boss!

I work as a duty manager in an international hotel in Sydney’s red light district, and I just can’t seem to keep out of trouble. Murder and mayhem seem to follow me wherever I go. And of course, I love it. I just can’t resist testing my investigative skills against that of the cops.

I look forward to meeting you all in my adventures, or should I say misadventures? :-)

Playing With The Bad Boys

A woman plunges ten floors down an atrium and lands on a baby grand piano in the luxurious Rourke Hotel Sydney. The police rule this as a straight case of suicide; but 48-year-old hotel duty manager and wannabe investigator, Mia Ferrari, thinks otherwise.

As Mia sets out to unravel the mysterious death and prove the cops wrong, especially her archenemy, Detective Sergeant Phil Smythe; she comes up against an unsavoury cast of characters who will do anything to shut her up. But with a little help from her friends, Mia will not stop until she unearths the truth.

Mia Ferrari is a wiseass, older chick with determination and an attitude, and she never takes “no” for an answer.
